How can a Coach help?

There is a lot of buzz on the concept of coaching, what is it all about and how do you select the right coach? Dozens of questions pop up on coaching, but what is coaching really?

To get started let’s define coaching. Let us assume that you are currently at point A and you wish to reach point B (point A being any current achievement level and point B being your desired achievement level). In this process, a coach helps you find more efficient ways to achieve your goal, in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires you to maximise your personal and professional potential. Coaching helps you become self-aware by widening your perspective of the situation at hand so that you can make your own choices and take actions to get closer to your goal aspirations. At times we wear blinkers or have blind spots. This is where a coach guides you so that you can identify these blind spots and enable you to view things from a different perspective, thus allowing you to identify a number of alternative options.

‘Failing to plan is planning to fail’ Benjamin Franklin

Coaching focuses on the now and your preparation for a new future. If we do not ensure that we have enough energy to get us from point A to point B we may never arrive at our destination. Coaching helps you develop your potential through your own thought process. Confucius, a Chinese philosopher said ‘I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.’ When we reach our own conclusion through our own efforts we are more responsible to achieve success. Coaching makes you accountable to act in order to achieve results. Therefore, identifying the right certified coach is the next step to get you on the right path to maximising your potential.
