Maximise your Strengths

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

Identify your strengths and improve your effectiveness in 30 minutes today with my free worksheet

Why should we focus on our strengths? Gallup analysis reveals that people who use their strengths every day are:

  • 3 times more likely to report having an excellent quality of life

  • 6 times more likely to be engaged at work

  • 8% more productive and

  • 15% less likely to quit their jobs!

Let me tell you a quick story about an experience I had in my first job in a fast-food pizza restaurant as a waiter/kitchen help and what I learnt from it. I had my first shift after a great first off-the-job orientation in which I was introduced to all the procedures and policies. The managers were quick to realise that I was very much of an introvert and therefore was more suited for back-of-house work. I did not like the idea! Their decision was not popular with me. With time, I quickly realised that I was more engaged working with a core team (in the kitchen), with sometimes just two team members preparing the dough. I noticed that I became more productive and was glad to take on responsibility. I was more comfortable in this role. What I would like you to take away from this is that there are times when we all need someone to see things in us that we don't necessarily see in ourselves. This is when a manager or coach may be of support to help you grow and believe in yourself, especially in your work or business.

We all have many strengths, and we are probably not utilising them fully. Let’s start by defining ‘strength’. A strength is a skill, ability, talent or personal quality that helps us to be effective and productive. The more we maximise these skills, abilities, talents and other personal strengths, we become more accepting of ourselves and see the value we offer. In my worksheet, you will concentrate on identifying your top 3 strengths. You will then analyse what you could do to boost your strength. This is done by reviewing some questions and brainstorming ideas or actions that you could take to boost your strengths. You will then create a plan to implement your top three actions that will get you started to improve your effectiveness today. I look forward to knowing how the worksheet served you. You make like to ponder and let me know:

  • How does it FEEL to focus on your strengths?

  • What do you notice about yourself after completing this exercise?

  • How could you bring more of that into your everyday life?
